Dr. Mahmood (Mike) A. Usman is the medical director of Beacon Health Options of Pennsylvania, a behavioral health managed care organization. Dr. Usman was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and grew up in Stamford, CT. He received his degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, New York Medical College, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of South Florida. His post-graduate training included a year of internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, followed by a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in behavioral neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Usman is a board-certified psychiatrist, disaster medicine specialist, physician executive and public health professional. He has combined many years of clinical experience and leadership roles in psychiatry, neuropsychiatry and disaster response with degrees in medical leadership and public health to create a unique skillset focused on protecting public health and improving health outcomes. Dr. Usman married a medical school classmate, now a neurologist, and they have a son in business and an astrophysicist daughter. He fills what little free time he has with doing three Japanese martial arts, skiing, attending rock concerts and working on his small farm in NW Pennsylvania.
