Commander Samantha Spindel

Deputy Director
Medical Reserve Corps

The Office of Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is pleased to announce that Commander Samantha Spindel has accepted the position of deputy director for the MRC, effective August 2024.

In this role, Commander Spindel will play a crucial part in supporting the MRC network's efforts to prepare for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies and disasters. With her extensive experience and dedication to the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) mission, as well as her leadership in vital programs, we look forward to her contributions to our collective goal of keeping our communities safe.

Commander Spindel brings with her a wealth of experience, having served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since 2009, initially at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before joining ASPR in 2021. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional expertise in information collection, analysis, and dissemination, particularly in the context of public health emergencies. Commander Spindel graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological & Environmental Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering. She also received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland and holds a graduate certificate in Global Health and Global Health Engagement from The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Her background as an engineer in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, coupled with her academic achievements, position her well to excel in her new role.

Commander Spindel's selection as the deputy director signifies a significant step forward for the MRC, and we have every confidence that her leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our readiness and response capabilities.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Commander Samantha Spindel as she assumes her new responsibilities with MRC. We look forward to her contributions and leadership as we continue to improve and expand the MRC network.
